Soul Conscious Christians!
It was Abraham Lincoln who once said: "To sin by silence makes cowards of men." That is a profound and phenomenal statement! I have no way of knowing the context in which he spoke these wise words, But he was obviously making reference to the fact that, if you have something important to say, and something that you know you should say, but you refuse to say it, you have just arrived at the status of being a "coward!”
Now, I do not know any people who would welcome being called a "coward." And yet the fact of the matter is, many born again Christians carry this title around with them every day, but they're ignorant of its reality.
What do I mean by this? I mean that there are countless numbers of Christians in our churches today who are "cowards" when it comes to proclaiming the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. And I think this is exactly what the Apostle Paul had in mind when he spoke some forceful words to the Corinthian believers in I Corinthians 15:34: "Awake to righteousness, and sin not, for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to you shame." The fifteenth chapter of the book of First Corinthians is called: "The Great Resurrection Chapter." The Corinthian Christians were extremely carnal and Paul is giving them a wake-up call here... he's reprimanding them to: "Stop sinning" because some didn't know about the fact that Jesus Christ had risen from the dead, and therefore proving that He was indeed the Son of God and God The Son!
The Gospel in its essence is found in I Corinthians 15:3.4: "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures." This Gospel is so wonderful, so precious: it encompasses all that mankind is in such dire need of: mercy, grace, forgiveness, unconditional love, hope, happiness, joy, and eternal life. And yet so many Christians remain timid and they become cowards because they are not sharing the Greatest Story that could ever be told - The Gospel of Jesus Christ!
Many faithful born again people love their church and attend every service. They sing those glorious Gospel hymns we all love. They give their tithes, their time, and their talent to their Saviour, and beloved, all these things are fine qualities and God is blessing them for their obedience. But somewhere along the way, so many Christians have been misguided and have formed a mindset that its not their calling to try to lead others to Christ, but that this is the work of the Pastor, the Evangelist, and the Missionaries.
They believe It's their calling to witness to people about their lost, hell bound condition. But God's Word, The Bible, makes it outstandingly clear that each and every one of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour and Lord, have an obligation, a duty, to do our very best to witness to others about the saving grace of God's Gospel. If we are not concerned about the eternal welfare of "others," there is something deeply wrong with our spiritual life!
And that is what this little brochure is all about: I want to ask you dear Christian: Are you a "Soul Conscious Christian?" Do you know what it means to be a "Soul Conscious Christian?" Well, let's talk about it. And let's ask God to speak to our hearts concerning this Important Issue.
A "Soul Conscious Christian" is a born again believer who understands the fact that, every person they come In contact with is destined for one of two places - heaven or hell! And knowing this fact they seek to share the Gospel with as many of these people as possible concerning how Jesus Christ can save their souls from eternal damnation and give them an eternal home in heaven. The "Soul Conscious Christian" has a deep burden in their heart regarding the eternal destiny of "others!" But perhaps you’re not really convinced that you need to become a "Soul Conscious Christian." Well, let's see what God's Word has to say about this important subject.
The Bible Makes It Clear!
In John 4:35.36 we read these words spoken by our Lord to his disciples: "Say not ye, there are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together." If you study the context here you will find that Jesus had just finished speaking to a lost Samaritan woman about her eternal destiny; The disciples had gone into the city to purchase some food, and upon their return they asked the Lord to eat with them. At this point Jesus seizes the opportunity to teach his disciples an important lesson. He informs them that: "...I have meat to eat that ye know not of." The disciples were so concerned about meeting their "physical" need. But their Lord was thinking of something much higher, much greater. Christ had just brought this woman to an understanding that, indeed He was the Messiah. Jesus told his disciples: "My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work." Jesus had a different kind of hunger. He was not thinking about satisfying the cravings of His physical appetite. His great concern was a passionate love for poor lost, sinful, hell-bound men and woman, and a desire to cleanse them from the bond of iniquity and to make them pure and holy in the sight of God! "I have meat to eat." In other words, Jesus was saying that there was nothing that gave Him more satisfaction; there was nothing more precious, more wonderful, than eager souls ready to receive His message of eternal salvation; "Say not ye, there are yet four months, and then cometh harvest?" This was obviously early in the year, and the disciples could look out across green fields around them and make an assessment and say to each other: "Well, it won't be long... only about four months and it will be harvest time." But once again our Lord Jesus with His infinite mind captured with the realm and reality of eternal verities, explains to his disciples: "Life up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest." Not the fields of wheat, not the fields of corn, but the great fields of the world... men and women everywhere who are living in their sins, and dying in their sins ... men and women who need a Saviour to offer them forgiveness! He was teaching His disciples the same thing He wants His present day disciples to understand; we who have been born again and are the servants of Christ need to realize that we have a tremendous responsibility to proclaim the message of the Gospel to those still living in sin! The fields are all ready for harvest, and it's our responsibility to do whatever is within our means to give them the truth. And notice here precious Christian; Our Lord is going to reward us accordingly. The Lord adds, "He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth may rejoice together." These "wages" will be given out at a time called: "The Judgment seat Of Christ"- The Christian's Judgment. "See 1 Cor.3:1-15". Oh, the rewards God has stored up in His majestic marvelous Celestial City for all the faithful "Soul Conscious Christians!"
Bible Truth To Make Us Think!
There are so many Bible verses relating to the subject at hand, I find it extremely difficult to choose which passages to comment on and which passages to forbear any commentary. But, as I reflect on the many hours of studying for this important message and the leading of the Holy Spirit, I will present a few Scriptures here that I think my Saviour will be pleased with, and which I would implore you to meditate on and to take deep to your heart.
Note these important words of the Apostle Paul as he vindicates his apostleship and testifies to the fact of his true motives in 2 Cor.4:3.4: "But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost; In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."
Now the "god of this world" is Satan, and he has blinded the minds of every individual in our world who have not yet trusted Jesus Christ for salvation. Satan is the only "god" that people without Christ know. Most of the 6 billion people on this earth do not believe in Satan's existence. But the very fact that they refuse to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ makes it very clear that they are under his power! Satan is a liar; a deceiver; he seeks to alienate folks from the true God; he seeks to blind people from the truth; his mandate is to keep lost souls in doubt and in darkness; Satan wants people to remain without hope, without help, damned and doomed for a Christless eternity to burn like human blow torches in the horrible lake of fire! Satan is a relentless, pitiless foe who stalks the corridors of our world, and he feasts on the fact of folk's eternal damnation.
Now the question is: Why are we disobeying our Saviour? Why are we leaving people in darkness? Why are we not exhorting lost people to come to Christ for the forgiveness of their sins? Didn't the inspired pen of the Apostle Paul just tell us: "But if our Gospel be hid, it Is hid to them that are lost?" Are we afraid that people won't like us if we tell them the truth? Are we more concerned about our reputation than their repentance? Have we become timid? Have we lost our boldness? Remember Lincoln's words: "To sin by silence makes cowards of men!" Have we become "cowards?" Are we embarrassed to hand out a Gospel tracts? Are we tempted to lower our voice when conversing about Biblical truths in public? Is it like pulling teeth for our pastor to persuade us that the world is going to hell in a hurry and that we must come out to church for soul winning night... a time to proclaim the truth that sets men free from Satan's perpetual prison? If we fit this description, we are certainly not "Soul Conscious Christians!"
Some Are Asking Questions!
In this moral decadent world in which we as Christians make our terrestrial abode, there are many lost people who are beginning to ask a lot of questions and I believe that some of these people are sincere and really want some answers concerning eternal things. Worldly people are asking questions like: "Do you think the end of the world is near?" Others ask: "Is there really a place called heaven… a place called hell?" And the Bible says that you and I as born again believers ought to be able to give them some answers! And let's face it; if we don’t have answers to their questions, who does? Well, the precious Apostle Peter addresses this important issue, as he lays his pen to parchment in I Peter 3:15. Listen carefully to what he says here: "But sanctify the Lord God In your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you as reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear." Whoever coined the phrase: “The Bible is its own best commentary," sure did know what he was talking about! This verse needs little commentary... it's self explanatory! You and I as believers on the Lord Jesus Christ must know what we believe, and why we believe it! We must have Biblical answers for the untold millions of people who are desperate for something more than the ludicrous, evolutionary, humanistic garbage that Satan and his crowd is feeding them. And praise God we have a priceless manual to guide people through this life and to the life beyond... a book which contains 31,175 verses - it's called THE HOLY BIBLE!
The death angel is lurking at this very hour for a lost soul who has never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He celebrates with every swing of his cold sickle; to him, hurling a lost man, woman, or teenager into the horrific abyss of the damned is festivity! He grins as he reads the morning newspaper obituary column. He sighs in relief, knowing that one more didn't escape the sharpness of his blade.
Death is on the prowl! It's anxious to acquire its next victim. Will you be a "Soul Conscious Christian" who will make an honest prayerful attempt to stop death dead in its bloody tracks before it gains one more victory? The death angel's schedule for this week just might include: One of your loved ones, A husband, a wife, a son, a daughter, a mother, a father, a grandmother, a grandfather, an uncle, an aunt, your neighbor, the check out person at your local grocery store, the person you work with every day, your best friend, perhaps even that person who comes to your church every now and then and sits across from you, or next to you in the pew! Will you give out Gospel tracts every day? Will you testify to others about all that Jesus Christ has done for you? You won’t be a "Coward" will you?
